Warning!

Diet alone is not going to have the desired effect in the short amount of time you have. Long stints of steady state cardio (e.g. bike or jogging) aren’t going to do you any good either. Weight training is probably the best thing but for you beginners out there by the time you’ve learnt how to do heavy squats you will be sat on the plane home!

A few months ago I came across an old book, something I was left by Grandad when he passed away around 20 years ago. The book is titled “Your Body: how it is built and how it works” and is written by a D. Stark Murray. This book was written in 1937, which makes it pretty darn old! So I read the book, and was pleasantly surprised by the nutrition and digestion sections, here’s what I found...

One of the things I've learnt in life is that nothing is ever quite as clear cut as it seems, and that there are always at least 2 opinions on any given subject. For me, this is one of the things that makes our life so interesting: rival football fans arguing over the greatness of their teams; government rulings that split opinion; to different tastes in music. Opinions bring people together as much as they divide others, and pretty much everything you say is opinion based.

If you’ve read any of my posts, or follow me on twitter then you will have noticed that I tend to talk quite a lot about the importance of the Squat exercise. For me, whether your goal is fat loss, weight gain, strength development, or anything really, then the Squat is of paramount importance for anybody’s exercise routine.

When I’m at the gym I see lots of people attempting the Squat, but unfortunately whilst I see some people doing these with great form, I do see a lot of people who could do with a few pointers. And what I have noticed is that a lot of people could benefit by understanding the basics of pelvic tilt. So here you go, from my experience in coaching friends and family these exercises, the following is my opinion on the best way to get this concept across.

So you read my recent post: To Run Or Not To Run and have decided that jogging isn't all that it's cracked up to be so you're going to start weight training!

BUT you don't know where to start. Should you join a gym? Should you recruit a PT? Can you train at home?

Well here is the advice I give to people totally new to weight training, this introductory 5 or 6 week phase will give you a solid foundation in terms of movement, strength and strength endurance, that you can then build on over time and get real results that your hard work deserves.
